No one knows beauty like professional make-up artists, so we’ve asked top MUA’s what they couldn’t live without in their kit — the catch is, it has to cost under £5. Some of their answers may surprise you!

Water Misting Bottle

Having water on hand when applying your #FOTD is super-handy! They say you should think of your skin as the canvas you apply your make-up to, and no one want’s a dry-cracked canvas! So by spritzing water on to your face before applying make-up you’re giving your skin an instant moisture boost, that will show in your final look! It’s also great for spraying on your eye-make up brushes to get a stronger pigment from your eyeshadows!

Baking Soda

We all know that winter can be a bit of a death sentence when it comes to caring for your skin. A surprising solution is using a little bit of baking soda as an exfoliant. Mix with cleanser until you get a thick paste consistency, rub onto your face and wash off with warm water. This will provide fast miracles for revealing brighter, smoother skin for a better make-up application.

Hand Sanitiser

An MUA’s prized tool is most definitely their hands. They can be used for blending colours and applying make-up directly to a clients face. So it’s really important that hands are kept clean so as not to spread bacteria or unwanted make-up particles! Having a bottle of hand sanitiser on your make-up dresser is a great way to ensure that your skin stays clear and your #FOTD is devoid of any unwanted make-up smears!

Pointed Cotton Buds

We’ve all been there, you’ve decided to be brave and apply a little liquid liner, and all of a sudden you’re sporting more of a black eye than a cat eye! These pointed cotton buds are perfect for quick fixes when make-up blunders happen — even MUA’s have them!

Blotting Paper

Oily skin can take your complexion from dewy to greasy, which is never anyone’s end goal. So having blotting paper on hand is the easiest way to correct unwanted face oil. It will also help your make-up last longer and not fall from your face — and if you’ve put time into your #FOTD, you want it to last as long as possible!

You’d be forgiven for thinking that Vaseline is only useful on dry, chapped lips. It definitely is a sore lip hero, however it can also be used to keep brows in place, be mixed with pigment for a dewy blush or highlighter and can even help eyelashes grow if applied before mascara. This multi-use product is a must-have for every MUA.
