HOW TO CREATE THE PERFECT CANVAS: PART II

PLUS AN INTERVIEW WITH AMY VALENTINE

Post by Hannah Tyrrell

A huge fan of Kat Von D Beauty, we asked Instagram superstar and blogger Amy Valentine into the studio to collaborate with the incredibly talented Kat Von D Beauty team. While creating a fabulously flawless canvas using their incredible Lock-It range, we took the opportunity to quiz Amy on her love for the brand and how she made it to a whopping 161k Instagram followers. Here’s what she had to say…

So, we can see from your Instagram that you’re a huge fan of Kat Von D, what is it about the brand that you love so much?

I love their values, as all products are vegan and cruelty-free. I also love that Kat herself supports oddballs and champions diversity. It really translates into her brand, promoting originality with unique shades.

What’s your essential everyday Kat Von D product?

I use the Shade and Light Contour Palette every day. It’s really good for my light skintone and is really highly pigmented.

And, what’s your favourite Kat Von D piece in your makeup collection?

I really love their Everlasting Liquid Lipsticks. The shades and variety of shades are all amazing and they’re very longwearing.

You did a shoot with us for their new ‘Lock It’ Foundation, how did you find the colour match?

Perfect. They have so many different shades for cool to warm skin tones, and it’s amazing for covering blemishes. I really love the Alchemist Holographic Palette they used today, too!

What coverage do you usually like from your foundation? And how was the coverage with this product?

I like a high coverage from my foundation, because unfortunately my skin sucks! The coverage of the Lock It Foundation is really high and easily covers blemishes. It’s also really buildable for everyday or evening wear.

What’s the best beauty advice you’ve ever been given?

When creating a smokey eye look, if you think there’s enough colour – add more! You lose a lot of pigment when you blend out, so always add a little bit more for a striking, bold finish.

What’s your best beauty tip for our readers?

Drink lots of water, and don’t be afraid to push the boundaries with your makeup. I don’t want to be cliche, but go out of your comfort zone and embrace being different!

What’s your top tip for girls wanting to get into blogging?

Don’t get into it just for the free stuff – and be yourself! If you make genuine, original content that you enjoy doing and really believe in, it will really come across to readers and people will start to take notice.
